Hypnotherapy

Certified Hypnotherapist

Hypnotherapy is a state of relaxed, focused attention — closer to daydreaming than to losing control. In that state the mind is more open to new ideas about old patterns, and the body is more willing to let its guard down.

Private sessions run 60–90 minutes, in person or virtual.

What it is

Hypnotherapy is a natural state of absorbed attention — the same one you're in when a film takes you out of the room, or you drive home and don't remember the last few miles. In that state your critical, judging mind softens, and the part of you that learned a pattern becomes more able to revise it. You are not asleep and nobody takes over: you hear me the whole time and you can open your eyes whenever you want. What makes it useful after trauma is that it doesn't require the story to be retold — the change happens at the level of image, suggestion, and bodily feeling.

What it entails

A session runs 60 to 90 minutes, in person or virtual. The first part is conversation: what you'd like to shift, what you already know about hypnosis, and what you need to feel in confidence. Then you settle on a mat or a chair and I guide you down through the breath into a relaxed, absorbed state. From there we work with the images and beliefs attached to the pattern — gently, and with your agreement at each step — before bringing you back up slowly. You'll leave with a short practice or a recording to listen to between sessions. Hypnotherapy is supportive: it walks alongside the medical care and therapy you already have, never instead of them.

The process

  1. 1

Talk first — what you'd like to work with, and anything about hypnosis that worries you. No mysteries here.

  2. 2

Set an intention together — one clear, doable aim, phrased as what you want rather than what you want to leave.

  3. 3

Settle the body — a slow induction through breath and muscle release, until the body feels loose and the mind turns inward.

  4. 4

Work with the mind — images, suggestions, and dialogue with the parts holding the pattern, at the pace you approve; your voice counts as much as mine.

  5. 5

Come up gently — counted back into full waking, with a few minutes before you move.

  6. 6

Take something home — a recording or a short practice, so the session keeps working between visits.

What to expect

You'll be present, aware, and in charge of the whole hour — most people are surprised by how much they hear and remember. It feels like a very deep rest: warm body, slow thoughts, voices a little distant. Some people cry, some laugh, some feel nothing dramatic and still notice the shift days later. There's no stage act and no loss of control. If you tend to dissociate, tell me first — I'll give you an anchor so you always know where you are. I don't promise outcomes and I don't treat medical conditions: hypnotherapy is a supportive space for reflection and steadiness alongside your medical care.
